    Loudspeaker Cable Gauge

I have seen references to 11g being the basic size for speaker cable. My cables will be about 30 ft. long. I can get 4 core in-wall type cable at 14G or 16G per core(?) which will be used for 2-way system connection. Is this adequate for HE drivers?
Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.

Just remember when calculating feet per ohm that a 30 foot pair/run = 60 feet of circuit.

    Re: Loudspeaker Cable Gauge

Honestly, I think gauge is overblown. IMHO it is more important with low power tube amps.

Let's say you run puny cable and lose 10% power....if you have 200 watts/channel is that REALLY a problem?

OTOH hardly anybody pays attention to cable capacitance...

Lastly, with modern SS amps, speakers are often over-damped....so some series resistance can sometimes improve the sound. It wouldn't make sense to but expensive cable then hook up a resistor. buy cheaper cable and a smaller resistor.

As I am sure everybody is sick of hearing me say...you are building a SYSTEM. One part affects another. So when considering speaker cables also consider the pieces they hook to.
